Sue’s Story - I learned how to calm my mind, how to breathe, and how to release stress.

We live in a culture that strives for the quick fix. What we know for sure is that true “fixes” take time. We didn’t get where we are over night and we aren’t going to get back to where we were over night, either.  True healing and improvement in overall health and wellness happen with a conscious decision, dedication to do what you need to do even when you don’t “feel” like it,  consistency and most of all, patience.  We all want to feel better and be empowered in our lives.  This is the story of Sue, one of our long-time members who was told she was destined to have chronic back and hip pain because one leg was shorter than the other.Sue was an avid walker, and when she was told this news, she didn’t know what to do.  Living Yoga had just opened and a few of her friends invited her to try some classes.  She decided to take some classes and was shocked and happily surprised when she began noticing changes almost immediately.  Within a few weeks, she was getting stronger in her upper body, and even found her pectoral muscles! Her hip mobility improved and she noticed that poses that were uncomfortable for her when she began were becoming tolerable.  Then, one day, she realized she hadn’t been to the chiropractor in weeks.  She felt her back and core were getting stronger and she knew yoga was what she needed.  “My investment was going to be in making my body stronger and more flexible, not to co-pays.  Not only was my body stronger, but I learned how to calm my mind, how to breathe, and how to release stress.”Sue had that “aha” moment that many of our students experience.  The moment you realize that coming to yoga consistently can help you live better is a life-changing moment.  Yes, I can learn to be more patient.  Yes, I can raise my self-confidence.  Yes, I can learn how to take care of my back/neck/hip/shoulder pain.  Yes, I deserve “Me-Time”. Yes, I can find more balance and peace in my life.  Yes, I can say “no” when it’s the right answer for me. These are life-changing revelations that will elevate the quality of your life, just like they did for Sue. Sue’s story is one of many at Living Yoga.  Countless people at Living Yoga have experienced their own personal “aha” moments, and they have graciously shared their stories and journeys with you below.

Carletta Hauck - I felt so proud of myself and amazed that I could do it.

“Hi, My name is Carletta Hauck and I am a member of Living Yoga.  I have been going to yoga for a few weeks now and I am noticing some exciting changes already.  Last week, I went to class with a very stiff, sore neck.  I don’t know what we did but by the end of class I realized my neck was no longer sore and I could turn it side to side again.  In that same class, we were lying on our backs and the instructor asked us to “rock up to a seated position”.  Now I have a difficult time moving my body to get out of bed in the morning so I thought to myself. “no way, I cannot do that.”  But then it occurred to me to at least try and guess what?  I did it!  I felt so proud of myself and amazed that I could do it.  In just a few short weeks, I feel better and move better.  I am surprised how quickly yoga is helping me.  I didn’t expect to see changes so fast – and they motivate me to go back to class as often as I can.  Consistency is very important.  I am loving my yoga practice and am excited for more “aha” moments!”

Deb Titze - I have a stronger inner self…

Yoga is one of the best things I have ever done for myself.  My time at Living Yoga is very special to me.  I have a sense of calm and peace after each class… and as always… so thankful that I came.  I have met many wonderful friends at Living Yoga and I enjoy sharing classes with each of them.  The instructors at Living Yoga are outstanding and very welcoming.  They provide just the right amount of encouragement, calm, peace and reminders to breathe… just when I need them!  They make me feel I am worthy and right where I need to be.  I have a stronger inner self… not to mention a stronger core!  I feel my days are blessed each and every time I end my practice with.. .Namaste!  Thank you Living Yoga!”

Kris Bean - I only wish I had started years ago

“I joined Living Yoga and starting practicing yoga for the first time a months ago at the age of 50.  I only wish I had started years ago.  I have more strength and flexibility, move easier, am less stressed and am sleeping better.  I’m more appreciative of my imperfect body and move more mindfully in my daily activities.  I just feel so much better, physically and emotionally, than I did a few months ago.  There’s a saying that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the second best time is now.  The same thing goes for taking up yoga.”

Tawny Arthur - I get crabby when I can’t get there (No, not me!)

“Love coming to Yoga.  I get crabby when I can’t get there (No, not me!).  I notice so much more strength in my legs, arms and abs when I do things.  I was telling my family the other day that I have a history of spraining my ankle and in my memory I have not done this since I started yoga!  I also stepped in a hole the other day – no problem!  With all of the busy-ness of life sometimes I feel very stressed and anxious.  After a yoga practice I feel so much calmer and ready to start the day.”

Yoga is Stupid - I am grateful that I found Living Yoga and decided to dive in and see what my yogi friends and my daughters thought was so great about it.

My daughter frequently reminds me that a couple of years ago she and I were having a conversation about health and exercise and she suggested I should try yoga. My response – “I wouldn’t like that, yoga is stupid.” So I still ponder what brought me though the doors of Living Yoga on 6/11/16 to check out the Saturday morning Intro to Yoga session…. my best guess is something along the lines of “curiosity killed that cat…”I began with the sole aim to get stronger and increase flexibility. I quickly found that yoga has become more than just a physical workout for me. The time I carve out of my day to practice yoga is much needed “me time” and usually leaves me mentally and emotionally better equipped to go forward with a positive approach to my day and life in general. Yoga has taught me to pay attention to the present and the moment and also to be able to ask myself each day “how do you want your day to be?” It’s really much easier to have a great day if you plan on it from the get go!As someone who doesn’t sit still for long and has a short attention span – “hey look! squirrel!” – I have to admit that a good part of the time I spend on my mat isn’t all beautiful, peaceful zen. The past and the future sneak into my thoughts and I’ve made a good many lists in my head while hopefully appearing to be focused on some drishti (yoga word – proof I am able to pay attention sometimes!) But the opportunity to center and discover myself from within does happen and whether it is a calm reflective moment that I find during a yoga stretch and mediation class or a “holy crap, I can do that!” moment when I’ve nailed a pose or finished a sculpt and core class; I am grateful that I found Living Yoga and decided to dive in and see what my yogi friends and my daughters thought was so great about it.”Curiosity killed the cat… but satisfaction brought it back!”
(In the interest of full disclosure, this testimonial was prepared because I have found myself unwilling to get up in time to make it to a 6:00 am yoga class and I really want to get my “wild star” sticker and fill my challenge card! Hopefully this is worthy of a sticker!) Tammy Rieber
